Twenty due in court accused of disorder at Birmingham EDL protest last year
Twenty men are due to appear in court, accused of violent disorder when the English Defence League staged a protest in Birmingham last year.
The appeal appeared on BBC’s Crimewatch programme in January, which led to several people coming forward and dozens of calls into the incident room naming people suspected of involvement.
Following subsequent enquiries the investigation team made a series of arrests up and down the country.
Ten men have been charged with violent disorder and will appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on 25 February. A further ten men have this week been charged and will appear before Birmingham Magistrates two days later (27 Feb).
A total of 31 people have been identified from the images of 57 people released during last month’s appeal. Six men have been arrested and released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Work continues by a team of detectives to trace those remaining.
Images of seven men suspected of involvement in disorder at the counter demonstration have also been released. One of those men has also been identified.
