Stan Collymore urges Twitter action over racist abuse
Former footballer and broadcaster Stan Collymore is calling on Twitter to take action after being bombarded by racist abuse on the social network.
His call comes as police confirmed they are investigating the online abuse directed at the talkSPORT presenter.
The latest abuse was sparked after the pundit suggested Liverpool’s Luis Suarez cheated by diving during last Saturday’s match against Aston Villa.
Collymore has been re-tweeting some of the abuse he has been consistently receiving since the match – three days ago – to his 503,000 followers.
Tonight West Midlands Police confirmed colleagues at Staffordshire Police were probing tweets sent to Collymore and urged users to block those who sent abuse online and report them:
Many Twitter users have also been supporting Collymore online and urging Twitter to take action, including Neville Southall and Piers Morgan:
Tonight Stan Collymore said several police forces had been “fantastic” on the issue but he remains “dismayed” at Twitter’s inaction.
